Research proposal Letter

Dear foundation,

My name is Ines Bouchaar and I am a proud daughter of two hard working Algerian immigrants. I am currently a freshman in the City College Of New York and I plan to continue my studies and graduate with a business administration degree. I have a passion for my education, and I am determined that someday I will reach my goal of helping those in need, those who were faced with the same hardships as my parents. A young married couple who migrated from one nation to another, leaving everything behind, and entering a foreign land to recreate themselves again. However, I am not writing to you to discuss a typical story about how a family migrated to begin a new life. With the help of your funding’s and my research, my focus is to shine the light on the small number of successful immigrant Algerian business entrepreneurs living here in New York; have the great advantage of sharing their experiences and share that light to the less fortunate who are currently fighting for a future in Algeria.

Algeria is currently facing the largest political protest in over two decades. The people have decided to stand against the decision of president Abdelaziz Bouteflika running for a fifth term, which was originally scheduled for April 2019. Due to him being president for many executive terms, it caused an uproar of unemployment for the citizens living there as well as many other economic and social issues. There has been movement from all parts of the world regarding the crisis, including here in New York city.  My goal is to conduct my research on these successful individuals who migrated from the same country for the main purpose of sharing hope and letting those who are fighting for their rights to keep doing so because hard work pays off. Just because the obstacles are not in your favor, it does not validate you giving up. This is the message I want to share with my community.

With the help of your foundation, I would use the money given to later publish my interviews with newspaper agency’s in Algeria for me to reach my message. The purpose is to not only touch the souls of American- Algerian citizens currently living here in New York but those who live in Algeria as well.

Being a Foundation, and having many significant proposals and competition the question you are asking yourself right now is, why is this person relating her research on such a personal stance?   My response would be that being a student in college and having so much ambition to graduate and hopefully one day becoming an entrepreneur myself; conducting these interviews and having the opportunity to share others life changing experiences is the most convenient and fastest way to start my journey in making a difference in the Algerian community here in New York City.

I was brought up in a foreign country however I was raised around an Algerian- American residential community.  I became familiar with my culture and traditions while still maintaining my identity as being an American. I am a product of a family who managed to climb up the economic ladder and be able to accomplish the ‘American dream’.  Embracing my identity and acknowledging that I would not be the person I am today if it wasn’t for those who brought me into this world. Climbing up the economic ladder is nearly impossible for immigrants; however, it is not impossible.
